Here’s To Best Friends

“A best friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”

“A best friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.”

Best friends is such a wonderful thing.

It’s hard to explain, like trying to describe what a moose is, or trying to show someone how much you love them. But here I go, trying to give it a shot.

It’s the you-had-to-be-there moments, it’s the laughing until you cry, it’s being able to call someone when you are in tears. It’s the moments when you chuckle at the most stupid jokes, and telling someone about every single mundane, boring thing in your day. It’s having more inside jokes than Tiger Wood has mistresses. It’s singing to music in the car and screaming at each other across the halls.

It’s baking brownies, reading books, surfing the web. It’s taking road trips, passing notes in class, getting your nails done. It’s watching movies late at night and eating ungodly amounts of chocolate. It’s connecting over the same things and realizing you’re not the only one. It’s sneaking out and doing stupid things. It’s making bucket lists together; it’s having each others’ backs. It’s taking a bajillion pictures and having the same guilty pleasures. It’s going shopping and going to sketchy places. It’s texting each other the stupidest things and calling each other over the most important things.

Being best friends is when you don’t see each other for a day, and it feels like a year. It’s when you don’t see each other for a month and it feels like the end of time. It’s when you can tell someone ANYTHING. It’s when you never feel judged and you always feel comfortable.

Best friends will tell you when you have spinach in your teeth, when your hair looks like shit, and when your clothes look awful. That’s the beauty of it. They keep you from looking like a fool. And if they can’t keep you from looking like a fool, they’ll just join you and you’ll both look like fools.

Being best friends is when you basically live at each others’ houses and you’re more like sisters than friends. It’s when you never knock and their parents tell you to eat your brussel sprouts.

Being best friends is being able to have deep conversations about life and philosophy and religion and then turn around and talk about fashion and boys. It’s being able to not talk and sit in total silence and not feel awkward at all. It’s when you take one look at each other and burst into laughter.

Best friends can argue about everything and still not be angry. It’s when you argue like an old married couple. Best friends is so wonderful because when you are weak, they are there to be strong. When one of us falls, the other is always there to pick up the pieces. Best friends have advice and jokes and stories. It’s when you never run out of things to say and every moment is a good moment.

It’s when they talk you up behind your back and defend you no matter the situation. It’s when they never get tired of hearing the same pointless drama and boy stories again and again and again.

They’re so hard to find, and so lucky to have. Finding a best friend is like finding a miracle.

Best friends believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself. They love you no matter what you do. They know everything about you and they still love you. They make you feel confident and powerful. Best friends are forever.

Best friends is such a wonderful thing.

I wish I could explain it.

To my best friends: I love you more than the world.
