The Charmed Life

Hey guys (: The last few weeks have been really really busy and crazy for me. In a just a few days I’ll probably make a decision about where I’m going to be going for the next few years and I just want to take this time to look back on some of the highlights of the last month.

1-I have been eating copious amounts of Nutella. Even though I’m technically allergic. It’s just so delicious and good. I feel like I don’t need to explain why I’m eating so much Nutella, but if you’re judging me it’s because I’m trying to comfort myself with the fact that graduation is still 60 days away…

2-I went to San Antonio for a weekend and did a lot of shopping! I love shopping. Anyway, these Coach sandals are my favorite purchase! I’ve been wearing them to death.

3-I got into MIT (Massachussetts Institute of Technology)!!! I’m really excited about that, and frankly I’m still sort of in shock. In a few weeks I’ll be going up to Boston to check out the city and the campus and I am so psyched. I’ll write another post about this later, because there is no way I can express all my feelings and hopes and dreams in a measly little paragraph.

4-I saw the Hunger Games!! It was so good! It doesn’t hurt that Peeta and Gale are both incredibly attractive. I will say Peeta being short is kind of a turn-off. But the movie was pretty great overall-it stayed true to the book and it was a fun watch. I’ll just stop talking now so that I don’t ruin anything for those of you who haven’t seen the movie or read the books.

5-Whilst (is that a word?) in San Antonio, my friends and I went to Rainforest Cafe, which was PACKED. We made a reservation so we could eat at 2:00, and we didn’t even get inside of the restaurant until 3:20. And then the food took literally 2 hours to come out. We were starving. But it ended up being a really fun experience. We ran around stealing sugar packets from other tables and then built towers out of said stolen contraband. I’m proud to say that I’m the only one who completed a tower-WHAT. *takes a bow* My parents would be so proud.

6-I saw this funny looking sculpture while in San Antonio and after a while we figured out that it was the Torch of Friendship. UHM, awesome much? I want a torch of friendship in my backyard….

7-I’ve been writing in my journal a lot lately, trying to find inspiration, documenting the boringness of everyday life, and trying to find the meaning of life. I’ll let y’all know when I figure it out (:

8-Here’s me with one of my teammates from volleyball. I miss her and all of my teammates so much! It’s sad when season ends and we all move on to new sports and extracurriculars. It was really nice catching up with her and just having a fun time at our friend T’s 18th birthday party.

9-This is a heart that I’m building in my digital graphics class. I think I’m going to animate it next and make blood flow through it. Yea, I’m a badass.

10-While I was off in Orlando, I had SO MUCH DELICIOUS FOOD. My dad and I went to this amazingggg Japanese restaurant and the sushi and sashimi was to die for. My dad used to live in Japan and he said this was the most authentic Japanese food he’d had in a long time. It was super freaking tasty.

11-My dad and I also went to go see Cirque du Soleil, which was AWESOME. I totally recommend going and seeing it if you ever get the chance. Now I have a strange urge to do awesome tricks on bikes and trampolines….if only I wouldn’t break my face trying.

12-My favorite part of my trip to Orlando (other than hanging out with my dad), was going to Harry Potter World. This is the skyline of Hogwarts. I drank butterbeer, had chocolate frogs, and Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. I went to Flinch’s Emporium, Ollivander’s, Zonkos, and Honeydukes. I also rode the Hungarian Horntail and the Norwegeian Ridgeback (like 50 times because there were NO lines). We went to Hogwarts and watched wand demonstrations and everything. It was mad fun. Of course it’ll never be as great as it was in my imagination, but it was still a nice time.

13-I made a wish on this fountain! I can’t tell you what my wish was though or it may not come true. I’ll let y’all know if the whole wishing on fountain things works (:

14-I found this insult chart somewhere on the internet during the hours that I spend exploring cyberspace and the many possibilities it holds. I know it’s crazy that this is one of the highlights of March, but come on you rank onion-eyed miscreant, don’t tell me it’s not hilarious. My frothy flap-mouthed friends and I have been having so much fun with it (:

15-Last but not least….WonderWoman! I decided that I’m WonderWoman. Because I’m awesome and frankly there is nothing more to it. Haha, just kidding. But WonderWoman has been gracing my iPhone background for the past few weeks, outranking Channing Tatum, Chris Pine, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and other hotties. (Yea, I know, it’s madness.) But whenever I get down I try to remember that a part of me is WonderWoman and I am strong and sexy, and my life has a purpose.

I hope all of you all are having fabulous adventures and making great memories.

Love and Kisses,

Spring is My Other Favorite Season

My favorite songs of springtime:

“Everyday” by Buddy Holly (

“Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles (

Mocha says “Hi!”

There’s a lot of conflicted feelings going on springtime of senior year. First, there is anxiety about what the freakity freak we will be doing next year (I have to brag… about my best and smartest friend… P was accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology a few weeks ago!). That anxiety is pretty tied up with overpowering longing for adventure and the world beyond our small and uneventful hometown. And underneath it all is the realization that we take a lot of things for granted. The weather seems to get more perfect every day, school is easing up (a little), and we are enjoying the company of the families and friends we’ve known all our lives. “Bittersweet” is definitely the word of choice.

I hope you are having a beautiful spring of love and sunshine!

Quest 9: To The Roof Part 1

So last week E and I snuck into the Overton, which happens to be one of the tallest buildings in our dinky little town. After making small talk with an cute old couple and riding the elevator to the top floor we secretly snuck into an area with a padlock and a hatch to the roof. But then we got confused and couldn’t decide whether the hatch actually led to the roof so we casually strolled around the hotel for another 30 minutes looking for another roof access. We basically ended up running up and down the stairs for a while. (I had taken a tabata class that morning so my calves were screaming bloody murder, wondering if my brain had decided to stop working) Once we got back up to the same hatch E jumped the locked gate and ran up the ladder, a brave and rebellious friend, that one. Anyway, her little brother and I managed to talk her out of her momentary lapse of judgement (You’re a badass E) and good thing, because I then went down to the front desk, and being the valiant and fearless person that I am, I asked about roof access and the manager quickly informed me that there was a low center of gravity on the roof and all stragglers who adventured up to the rooftops died horrible and frightful deaths…..

Whatevs, rooftops part 1 was still fun. Stay tuned for rooftops 1.5, we’re adventuring on to bigger, badder, and more daring roofs.

Peace and Light,

On Texting Etiquette

Hopefully, you are familiar with the tumblr Male Minded, which is both hilarious and very instructive about popular culture, especially in regard to the relationship between men and women.

This diagram is a reflection of a conversation I have hear among my friends many times. People say things like, “Oh, yeah, he’s obviously desperate, he texted back in like three seconds,” or “Yeah, I never text people back immediately.”

I think we should all call ourselves out a little bit here. When I get a text, my phone buzzes. When my phone buzzes, I hear it. I then proceed to read the message. If I don’t answer it, it lingers in my brain and adds another item to my distracting, internal to-do list.

Consequently, I usually answer my phone immediately, or a number of hours later when I have retrieved my phone from wherever I left it.

Because I think it is COMPLETELY ridiculous to read a text and then WAIT three to five minutes until you have reached the acceptable window of time to answer the message. This is especially true if the response does not require and lot of syllables and/or thought. I respect people so much more if they answer back immediately than if they make me wait ten minutes. You are not putting on your cape to go save humanity from the forces of evil. You are not discovering a chemical equation that will change the trajectory of science forever. Everyone understands that you are just WAITING FOR THE SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE MOMENT to answer a text message.

This is especially true in flirtatious relationships, where timing seems to be a moment of life and death-by-killer-bees. I think it is incredibly attractive when a guy texts me back immediately. He is saying, “I value both of our time more than stupid rules that people make up because they don’t have any confidence.”

I’m not saying we should all forever at the mercy of our ringtones, because that is a terrible way to live. I usually leave my phone somewhere where I can’t hear it when I want to make art, read, write, or do other things that require focus. You can usually tell the difference between people who are really busy and people who are pretending.

So go on, comrades, and be free of the social stigmas that we make for ourselves. Do whatever you want, spending the least amount of time doing stupid things like waiting for the right moment to answer a text message. So that you can make time to do fun things like eat popsicles and apply chapstick to shimmering perfection.

Love and kisses,

Things to do in San Antonio

San Antonio is the most quintessentially Texan of all cities in the lone star state. It has the coolness factor of being an hour’s drive from Austin without losing its unique brand of Texan pride. Here are a few things that can help you soak up the city.

1. See the Alamo, of course!

2. Walk the Riverwalk and don’t miss all the recently completed art that is interspersed throughout:

3. If you’re in San Antonio during spring break, the Luminary Festival is on. I didn’t get to go because it was closed this year for rain 😦

4. Also, during spring break, they hold a paella festival every year. It’s a top-chief type festival where various chiefs from all over the nation come to cook paella for judging.

5. The paella festival takes place within the Pearl, which is a renovated brewery. There are some very cute shops, an amazing bakery, and an authentic Mexican food restaurant that strives to re-create Mexican street food.

6. Explore the Blue Star, a collection of artistic shops. A great place to find gifts or just walk around.

We hope you’ve been having a fabulous spring break! Lots of Love!
